Visit to Althorp

The home of 19 generations of the Spencer family since it was built 500 years ago, Althorp is a magnificent mansion with delightful gardens, a gift shop and a café. There are 19 splendid rooms to explore on 2 floors. There is top-quality china and furniture to be admired and paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Poussin. There are 2 exhibitions: ‘The Spencers: The History of an English Family’ and one celebrating the relationship between the Spencer family and the ‘Animals of Althorp’. Diana, Princess of Wales, is buried on an island in the Oval Lake. This cannot be visited but there is a small memorial in the grounds.
All Visits were cancelled during the pandemic. It’s hoped that some of them may be rearranged in 2021.
