Rebekah Hodgkinson is a PhD student in Archaeology at the University of Oxford in collaboration with the National Trust. She will describe her research into the Trust’s institutional history and its photographic collections in relation to British imperialism, and will give examples of the kinds of photographs that are linked to the British Empire within the National Trust’s collections. She will use Kedleston Hall, the family seat of Lord Curzon, Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905, as a case study, and look at the history of imperial spectacle, mythmaking and monumentalisation.
