The speaker will be local historian Liz Woolley, who specialises in aspects of the history of Oxford and Oxfordshire, paticularly “town” as opposed to “gown”. Her talk examines why Oxford’s suburbs grew so rapidly after 1850, what factors affected how they developed differently to the north, south, east and west of the city, and the effects that suburban growth had on the city and its residents.
