Visit to Compton Verney Art Gallery and Parkland
9 November 2022
With the days getting shorter, and autumn colours fading, what better time to visit this magnificent, recently restored stately home. Owned and developed by the wealthy Verney family from 1435, they were forced to sell the property and estate in 1923. Having been requisitioned by the army during the Second World War, the property fell into disrepair. In 1993 the Peter Moores Foundation purchased the property and formed the Compton Verney Charitable Trust to create a centre for the arts. Re-opened in 2004, following extensive re-building and renovation, this 18th -century Robert Adam building now houses some fascinating permanent exhibitions, which you will be able to view with a tour guide.
The permanent exhibitions include British Folk Art, British Portraits, North European Art, Max Lambert, Chinese Arts & Crafts and Naples Arts & Crafts. Temporary exhibits include Portrait Miniatures, Dutch Flower Art, and the contemporary Indian Artist Reena Kallat. The grounds of the estate, designed by Capability Brown, are undergoing extensive restoration. The more intrepid may like to venture out to explore this attractive landscape.
