Visit to Hampton Court Palace
29 September 2022
A great opportunity to discover the magnificence of this former royal residence, once home to the flamboyant King Henry VIII. You can marvel at the two distinct and contrasting Tudor and Baroque architectural styles and soak up the atmosphere in 60 acres of stunning gardens beside the River Thames. Extended and developed in grand style in the 1520s by Henry VIII, the present day elegance and romance of the palace owes much to the Christopher Wren designed baroque buildings commissioned by William and Mary at the end of the 17th century. The building is split into sections each telling a story of a different period of history so you can choose which sections to visit. There are individual electronic guides to tell you all about your surroundings. Highlights include the magnificent Great Hall, the stunning vaulted ceiling of the Chapel Royal and the enormous kitchens, which are the most extensive surviving 16th -century kitchens in Europe. The formal gardens are continually being developed and include the 18th -century Privy Garden and the world famous maze.
