Visit to Stratford upon Avon & Shakespeare’s Birthplace
16 February 2022
This trip includes a visit to Shakespeare’s birthplace – the house owned and lived in by his father John until his death in 1601, and retained by the Shakespeare family through to 1806.
There will then be a walking tour, approx. 2 miles long, led by a Blue Badge Guide, along the ‘historic spine’ of Stratford and passing many Elizabethan timbered buildings. It includes a short presentation at the 15thC Chapel of the Holy Guild to see the famous doom frescos, recently discovered; a visit to the Holy Trinity Church – where the grave of Shakespeare can be seen; a chance to view the magnificent Royal Shakespeare Theatre and hear the history of this fantastic institution.
In the afternoon there will be free time in Stratford.
