Visit to Tyntesfield

14 September 2023

Tyntesfield was acquired by the National Trust in 2002. It is a magnificent Victorian house, remodelled in the Gothic Revival style by Walter Gibbs, who made his fortune from guano trading in South America. The interior of the house is richly decorated and the building is very ornate, especially the private chapel which was modelled on the flamboyant architecture of Saint Chapelle in Paris. It is joined to the house by a bridge. The house is surrounded by 540 acres of land, including woodlands, parklands, towering trees and an orchard. There are open lawns, flower filled terraces, an historic orangery and a kitchen garden.
